Looking Good for your man – A Reasonable Request?

8 Mar

I am tickled when I picture my mom watching the clock when the time came close to my dad coming home from work.  A woman never given to wearing what we call “casual wear” (read: sweats and flip-flops) would move hastily to her bedroom and change.  Yes, change so that she was presentable for her husband.  No, she would break out full prom-gown regalia – however it would consist of something that was nice, neat and ironed and always included earrings and lipstick.

Is this a biblical mandate or a personal choice?  The only verse that comes to mind is:

1 Corinthians 7 : The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does.

I believe it is a reasonable request for a wife to make a reasonable effort to pretty up prior to her husbands homecoming.  We take the time to make certain the house is clean don’t we?  Dinner is on the table or warming isn’t it?  My grandmother always said that you “eat with your eyes first” and presentation is of utmost importance when serving a mean.

A reasonable presentation where our apperance is concerned is not to much to ask – remember, he eats with his eyes first.
